WASHINGTON, D.C. – The scoreless drought for the Gallaudet University softball team ended against nationally ranked Salisbury University on a sweltering Tuesday afternoon in the nation's capital. The Bison had been held scoreless for 29 innings during their six-game losing streak but the Buff and Blue pushed across a run against No. 19 Salisbury. The Sea Gulls swept the Capital Athletic Conference doubleheader with five-inning victories of 18-0 and 30-1.

The two wins clinch the top-seed for Salisbury in the upcoming CAC tournament. The Sea Gulls (23-2, 10-0 CAC) have won 23 consecutive games after they dropped the first two games of the year. SU is the 13-time defending CAC champion, 14 titles overall.

The first game was a combined no-hitter tossed by juniors Kelly Leary and Kelsey Mills (2-2). The pair combined to strikeout 11 Bison out of 16 batters faced. GU drew one walk against Mills, its only base runner in the game. Three-time All-American shortstop Kelly Waskewicz blasted her 49th career home run in the first game to move into a tie for third-place all-time in NCAA Division III history.

GU freshman pitcher Alicia Johnson (0-6) suffered the loss as she gave up 18 runs (nine earned) on 13 hits, seven walks, 10 wild pitches, two hit batters and one strikeout.

The second game was better for the Bison against the tough the Sea Gulls as Gallaudet scored a run and came up with three hits. Johnson had two hits to lead the way while freshman Nicole O'Malley (Fredericksburg, Va.) recorded the other hit. Freshman shortstop Kara Gulvas (Crown Point, Ind.) scored GU's only run on a wild pitch made by sophomore pitcher Erika Brittingham in the second inning. O'Malley (1-6) took the loss as she pitched a complete game. She unfortunately gave up 30 runs (14 earned); off 26 hits, seven walks, three wild pitches and one hit batter. Salisbury went to its bench often and early as the Sea Gulls played key reserves in both games. Sophomore Jamie Wells (1-0) earned her first win of the season as she pitched the final three innings.

GU will close out its CAC regular-season schedule this weekend. The Bison will hit the road and face York (Pa.) College on Friday afternoon and then travel to Dover, Del., to go up against Wesley College on Saturday. Gallaudet needs a few wins to have a shot at the No. 6 seed in next week's CAC tournament.

NOTES: Gallaudet will not host any games against St. Paul's on April 8 or April 14.
