Bison wrap up final road conference doubleheader at Penn St.-Berks

READING, Pa. - The Gallaudet University softball team dropped a pair of United East Conference games here Tuesday to Penn State Berks. The Bison lost 8-0 and 15-0 in five innings to the Nittany Lions.

GU allowed 20 hits and 11 walks as Gallaudet remains winless in conference play and concludes its road schedule.

Game 1: Penn St.-Berks 8, Gallaudet 0 (F/5)
The buff and blue played error-free for the first time this season, but fell behind early as the Nittany Lions built a 5-0 lead through two innings. The Bison offense was held to just three hits, and Penn St.-Berks added three late runs to seal an 8-0 win in five innings by the eight-run mercy rule.

First-year first baseman Mattea King (Capitol Heights, Md.), sophomore catcher Sophia Wascher (Noblesville, Ind.) and first-year outfielder Sammie Howell (Columbus, Mont.) were the only Bison to record a hit, each with one single.

Senior pitcher Lacey Drolsbaugh (Lansdale, Pa.) took the loss in the circle after she recorded four strikeouts in 4.2 innings.

Game 2: Penn St.-Berks 15, Gallaudet 0 (F/5)
The Nittany Lions erupted for an 11-0 lead in the first inning and never looked back. Penn St.-Berks (9-17, 7-7 United East) added four more runs over the next two innings to secure an eight-run plus, five-inning mercy-rule victory. Gallaudet (6-21, 0-13 United East) finished with three hits, as Howell led the Bison with two hits and two stolen bases.

Sophomore pitcher Olivia Wascher (Noblesville, Ind.) took the loss in the circle.
