Box Score 2 WASHINGTON, D.C. –
It has been a busy three days for the Gallaudet University softball
team as the Bison kicked off their 2010 season this week at home.
GU hosted University of Mary Washington on Thursday afternoon as
the Eagles swept the Capital Athletic Conference doubleheader 14-2
and 14-5 in five innings.
The two
teams entered today seeking their first wins but unfortunately for
the Bison (0-6, 0-2 CAC) the wins went in favor of Mary Washington
(2-8, 2-0 CAC).
GU fell
behind early in both games as Mary Washington scored eight runs in
the first inning of Game 1 and eight runs in the second inning of
Game 2.
The Bison
showed some flashes of life at the plate against the Eagles as the
Buff and Blue was able to manufacture some runs in both
games.
Sophomore
Michelin Barron (Frederick, Md.) batted a combined
2-for-3, scored one run and plated three RBI on the day. Barron hit
a triple in the second game, her first of the season.
Alicia Johnson (San Jose, Calif.) also had a
triple in the second game. Catcher Casey
McCullough (Oceanside, Calif.) had two hits in the second
game and one in the first.
Junior
Alicia Balzer (Montgomery Village, Md.) lost the
first game as she allowed all 14 runs (six earned) on 14 hits as
she walked three. She now stands at 0-3 for the year. In the second
game, Johnson (0-1) lasted an inning as she surrendered nine runs
(five earned) on one hit and eight walks. GU had 15 total
walks in the second game.
Mary
Washington was led offensively by Koah Chitty (3-for-5) as she
scored seven runs, stole four bases, one double and had two RBIs.
First baseman Morgan Lamon (4-for-6) scored three runs and plated
six runners thanks her two doubles. Every batter in the Eagles
line-up scored at least one run in both games.
Elizabeth
Crowe (1-4) picked up the win in the first game as she even
clobbered her second home run of the year to deep left field. Annie
Blaine (1-3) got the win in the second game as she struck out eight
batters.
Gallaudet
is off for Spring Break and will next host McDaniel College on
Thursday, March 25, at 3 p.m.
