Box Score 2 WASHINGTON, D.C.— The Gallaudet
University volleyball team won both its games on Friday while
playing host to its fellow North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC)
members Penn St.-Abington, Penn St.-Berks, Penn St.-Harrisburg, and
St. Elizabeth. The Bison wins propelled the team into first
place in the NEAC, its first season in the conference.
The first match for the Bison (18-10, 6-0 NEAC) was won easily
by the Buff and Blue 3-0 (25-8, 25-8, 25-8) against Penn
St.-Abington (4-12, 1-4 NEAC) in the Field House. Junior
Paige
Johnson (North Richland Hills, Texas) led the team
with a team-high 27 assists and six service aces. Sophomore
Jessica
Israel (Frederick, Md.) added a team-high nine kills,
and sophomore Lauren
Benedict (Germantown, Md.) contributed a team-high 11
digs.
In the nightcap after a three hour break, the Bison continued
where they left off with another 3-0 (25-12, 25-7, 25-7) shutout
win against Penn St.-Harrisburg (9-16, 2-4 NEAC). Paige
Johnson once again led the team in assists with 28, coupled with
six service aces. Israel continued her success near the net
with another nine kills, her sixth game in her last seven matches
with nine or more kills along with four assisted blocks. Sophomores
Krystal
Johnson (North Richland Hills, Texas) and Mari
Klassen (White Rock, British Columbia) both added
seven kills in the contest. The Bison also received six kills
from sophomore outside hitter Ann Whited
(Fishers, Ind.), as the Bison out-totaled Harrisburg in kills 35-10
on the night. Junior Micaela
Paulone (Fishers, Ind.) played well as team libero
with a team-high six digs.
The Bison weren't the only team to go undefeated on the day as
Penn St.-Berks also defeated Penn St.-Harrisburg 3-1 and St.
Elizabeth 3-0. Penn St.-Abington split its decisions on Friday
while St. Elizabeth looks to gain its first victory on the weekend
tomorrow.
Gallaudet looks to continue their success at the Field House on
Saturday, October 16, against St. Elizabeth (1-19, 0-6 NEAC) at 10
a.m. and Penn St.-Berks (18-3, 5-1 NEAC) at noon.
