SALISBURY, Md. - First-place in the Capital
Athletic Conference (CAC) volleyball standings was on the line
Tuesday evening as Gallaudet University traveled to face Salisbury
University at the Maggs Center. The first-place Sea Gulls held off
the Bison, 3-1, before a crowd of 445 on Dig Pink night.
Gallaudet (16-9, 3-2 CAC) kept the match close throughout the
night as the Bison won the second set 25-20. GU fell behind 2-1
before it took an early 7-2 lead in the fourth set. Salisbury
(20-4, 5-0 CAC) then went on a 14-4 run to pull away from Gallaudet
and close out the set and the match; 18-25, 25-20, 19-25, 18-25.
SU, the two-defending CAC champions, have not lost a conference
match in 19 games. Gallaudet was the last team to beat
Salisbury back on October 18, 2007, in a thrilling five-set match
that the Bison won; 36-34, 22-30, 29-31, 30-22, 15-11.
Senior Amanda Krieger (Carmel, Ind.), the
reigning CAC Player of the Week, led the Bison with a double-double
as she made 12 kills and a team-high 20 digs. Senior
Justine Jeter (Noblesville, Ind.) had a team-high
13 kills and 16 digs and sophomore Paige
Johnson (North Richland Hills, Texas) made 29 assists and
14 digs to record double-doubles as well.
Gallaudet remains in third-place of the conference behind
Salisbury and University of Mary Washington, the two teams that
have handed the Bison their CAC losses this season.
GU will next host St. Mary's (Md.) College on Thursday, October
15, at 7 p.m. in the Field House.
