Gallaudet started the 2009 portion of their schedule tonight
against Capital Athletic Conference opponent Hood College, and
despite a strong effort from Sekoe White, who scored
24 points and grabbed 13 rebounds, Gallaudet lost their third game
of the season, 84-63 to go to 7-3 on the season.
The loss snapped Gallaudet's three game winning streak. The
game was close for much of the first half until a late 7-0 run by
Hood late in the second half, led to a 41-29 halftime lead that
Gallaudet never recovered from. Hood jumped to a quick start in the
second half, and despite several rallies by the Bison, Gallaudet
was never able to get the game in single digits the rest of the
way.
The main difference in the game was field goal shooting, which
saw Hood shoot 32-66 from the floor, and Gallaudet 25-76. Hood made
9-19 three-pointers, while Gallaudet made just 5 of 26. Gallaudet
was outrebounded for one of the few times this year by the much
bigger Hood team, which featured a pair of 6-6 players who made the
inside a tough place for the Bison to score tonight.
Johnny
Jackson, Jr. played a solid game, scoring 11 points in 19
minutes of play and grabbing 5 rebounds.
After the game, Gallaudet
Head Coach Jeb Barber said there was a simple explanation for
what went wrong tonight. He said, "We had to do three things
tonight. We had to play hard. We had to play
smart. We had to play together. We only did one of
those three - we played hard tonight."
Coach Barber will gather his team for practice tomorrow and work
on their next game which is Saturday, January 10 at 4 pm vs.
Stevenson College in the Field House. "We need to work on the
other two things starting tomorrow. We're confident we will
have a good practice tomorrow. We need to do a better job of
sharing the ball on offense and being unselfish with the
basketball."
