From York College's Sports Information Office:
YORK, PA - The York College volleyball team dropped a
heartbreaking five-game match against visiting Gallaudet on Tuesday
night in Capital Athletic Conference action. The Bison (8-5, 4-0
CAC) took the match with scores of 35-33, 26-30, 28-30, 30-20, and
15-13. The Spartans now stand at 15-4 with a 2-1 CAC record,
but are 0-3 in five-game matches this season.
Gallaudet jumped out to a quick 5-1 advantage in the first game.
Battling back to take eight of the next nine, the Spartans looked
primed to defeat the tough Bison squad. Gallaudet however,
quickly reestablished the lead with a run of their own and went up
19-13. York then tallied nine of the next ten points, taking
a 22-20 lead and forcing the Bison into a timeout. Both sides
fought hard throughout the rest of the game, before Gallaudet
grabbed the win, 35-33.
York proceeded to garner the next two games, 30-26 and 30-28, as
the Bison gave away numerous points through unforced errors.
Now up two games to one, the Spartans were in great shape to
overcome the team that ousted them from last season's CAC
tournament.
Unfortunately for the green and white, Gallaudet was up to the
challenge and was dominant in the fourth game winning 30-20.
The final frame saw York jump out to a 6-0 lead, before the Bison
went on a streak of their own winning the next five. The
back-and-forth battle resulted in a Gallaudet 15-13 win, giving the
visitors the 3-2 match victory.
The Spartans were never able to get into a rhythm as the
Gallaudet defense stymied York's offense the entire
night. The Bison's size and quickness proved a deadly
combination that resulted in solid blocks and sprawling digs.
Seeming to never allow an easy point, Gallaudet was in the right
place at the right time for almost every Spartan attack.
Lindsay Schorner was York's most dangerous threat
throughout the evening, registering a team-high eleven kills.
Alishia Waltermyer and Casi Brough pitched in with nine and eight
kills respectively. Katie Hertz kept her team in the
match handing out 41 assists. Hertz also led the Spartans
defensively, notching 22 digs. Libero Laura Krajewski and
defensive specialist Amy Livelsberger contributed mightily to the
defensive effort as each had 16 digs.
For the Bison, Justine Jeter hammered home 14 kills on 38
attempts for a .270 hitting percentage. Amanda Kreiger
recorded a double-double compiling 13 kills and 16 digs on the
night while Krystle Berrigan dished-out 50 helpers from her setter
position. Shana Lehman led Gallaudet on the defensive end
registering an incredible 40 digs. Katelyn Reese was a wall
at the net as she had five solo blocks and three block assists.
