BALTIMORE, MD—The Bison volleyball team returned home
victorious after sweeping the Villa Julie Mustangs 30-24, 30-17,
32-30 for their first 3-0 decision this season.
The Bison were on cruise control for the first two games,
establishing their presence with swift passing,
targeted sets and strong kills. Luda Mounty-Weinstock led the way
on offense with 13 kills, while Katelyn Reese added 10 of her own.
Setter Krystle Berrigan improved on her season average with 41
assists, to boost her per-game assists to 13, from 9.
In the third game, the Mustangs would not give up without a fight,
leading at one time by as many as 9 points. However, a Buff and
Blue offensive surge and steady defense, especially with the
blocking duo of Mounty-Weinstock and Ursa Rewolinski—the pair
combined for nine stops overall. The game teetered back and forth
at the 25-point mark, with each team scoring offensively and
defensively until the Bison capitalized on Mustang errors to finish
at 32-30.
The win brings Gallaudet to 5-4 on the season, 1-0 in the Capital
Athletic Conference. Villa Julie had come in to the match with a
6-1 record.
Next up for the Bison is a trip to the Washington & Lee
tri-meet in Roanoke, VA. on Saturday the 15th. Bridgewater College
is the third participant.
