WASHINGTON, D.C.--Both offenses struggled to ignite in the early
minutes, until Tamijo Foronda put the Bison on the board, followed
minutes later by Brittainy Payne. The Cardinals did not score until
Justine Gray's trey at the 13-minute mark. The beginning of the
game had no resemblance to its end, with the Bison losing 74-40.
Both defenses allowed only 15 points in the first 10 minutes,
with the Bison controlling the lead for most of the half. Catholic
then jumped on top and surged ahead off a 9-0 run until Coach
Margaret Carey earned a technical, giving the Bison a scoring
opportunity. Pia Marie Paulone made both baskets to stop the
go-ahead run. However, more Bison turnovers led to Cardinal baskets
as the Cardinals got away off a Jackie DeBorger three at the
halftime buzzer to lead 37-22.
The Cardinals came out of the halftime gates at full throttle,
limiting the Buff and Blue to only a basket in eight minutes. The
Bison could not get around the Cardinal full-court press and
defense, as the Cardinals went on a 18-0 surge before the Buff and
Blue could get a basket in at the 9-minute mark. For the game, the
Cardinals converted their trips to the charity stripe, going
21-for-27 to the Bison's 10-for-15. The Bison committed 31
turnovers to the Cardinals' 17, a factor in the 34-point margin.
Catholic's Jackie DeBorger had a game-high 19 points to lead the
Cardinal offense, while Gallaudet's Pia Marie Paulone bucketed a
team-high 14 points. Senior Jessica Salisbury capped her final home
game with a 11-rebound performance.
The Bison (3-20, 0-13) close out the regular season on the road
at Marymount in search for their first conference win on Saturday,
February 17th.
