WASHINGTON, DC--The Buff and Blue kept the Wesley College
Wolverines and Rashawn Johnson, who came into the matchup averaging
28 points a game, in check. However, the Wolverines capitalized on
90.5% free throw shooting next to Gallaudet's 52.4% to pad their
lead and seal the victory late in the game with a 92-75 score.
Gallaudet's defense limited Johnson to 15 points, and only one
trey. The Bison edged their visitors in the rebounding battle,
36-34. The Wolverines relied instead on guards Evan Martin and Paul
Gibbs with their combined 36-point effort to keep the conference
newcomers in the game.
For Gallaudet, four starters were in double-digit scoring. Onye
Davis posted game-highs on both sides of the ball, tying Martin
with 19 points and leading the board charge with 10 rebounds, good
for a double-double. Guards Johnny Jackson and Jon Mowl netted 17
and 13, respectively with Lance Gonzalez adding 8 and a game-high 5
assists.
Senior forward Onye Davis sets up one of his baskets. The senior
