Coach Lynn Boren notches win #75 over Catholic

WASHINGTON, DC--Gallaudet lost the first game, 30-26 but staged a three-act rally, winning straight games (32-30, 30-25, 30-27) to give Head Coach Lynn Ray Boren his 75th career win.

From CUA Sports Information
__________

The teams were tied at eight but the Cards slowly pulled away thanks to solid hitting. Up by as much as seven points at one juncture CUA seemed to be on their way to victory but errors gave Gallaudet their window of opportunity. After pulling within two 23-21 it became a race to 30. CUA served up three points  as the Bison made them work for the 30-26 victory.

The Bison jumped out to a quick lead in game two holding a 6-1 advantage. CUA worked its way back into the game but struggled to get a run going. A number of side out opportunites looked like the Cardinals' chance to halt the Gallaudet momentum. Finally CUA pulled within three 23-20 forcing Gallaudet to call a timeout to regroup. A CUA service ace tied it at 24 but the Bison weren't finished. The squads traded points in some solid rallies, tied it at 29 and once again at 30. Gallaudet managed to finally get ahead winning 32-20.

The teams used momentum from the end of the second game to start the third in a see-saw match with neither squad gaining a significant advantage. Gallaudet used Cardinal errors to its favor going up 18-12 at one point, however, the Cardinals made their way back but could never quite get over the hump falling 30-25.

The battle continued through the fourth game as CUA fought to force the extra contest. But the Bison managed to take the lead at 10 thanks to power hitting up front. Looking at as much as a six-point deficit, Cardinal Mary Kate Gardner brought the Cards back into the game serving during a pair of spirited rallies. At 27 seven a CUA back row attack tied it up, but it wouldn't be enough as the Cardinals fell.
