WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Senior guard Tamijo Foronda was one rebound
and a steal away from the season's first triple-double, as she
collected a team-high 14 points, bolstered by nine rebounds
and nine steals as the Bison marched over the Christendom
Crusaders in a break from CAC play. Foronda also visited the
free throw line 12 times, sinking 10 out of those 12 shots.
The game started at a sluggish pace, with a combined 23 points
scored at the 10-minute mark (GU 13, CC 10). Both
offenses struggled to find a groove, going through several scoring
droughts before junior guard Pia Marie Paulone's tip-in off a
Foronda miss put the Bison ahead for good. On the other side
of the ball, Christendom would not get any closer than 11 points
despite being paced by 28 points combined from Beth Thrun (15) and
Maria Ross (13).
From the defensive end, senior forward
Jessica Salisbury led the charge on the boards, grabbing a
game-high 12 rebounds, with fellow mate Brittainy Payne narrowly
missing her own double-double, pulling down nine boards and
posting 12 points and two rejections. This game marks the
first time all season that the entire starting lineup and players
off the bench contributed to the scoring run that culminated in the
38-point victory margin. Freshman Amelia Palmer connected
from beyond the arc for the team's lone three-pointer, as her
teammates cheered wildly, pumping her fist on the run back down the
floor. Overall, four Bison were in double-digit scoring, with Pia
Marie Paulone's 11 and Stacy Jones' 10 notches. The Buff and
Blue scored 26 points off turnovers and built on their lead with 30
points off second-chance scoring, with an extra 17 coming off the
bench.
The Bison (3-14, 0-7 CAC) continue the
home game stretch with the visiting York Spartans (13-6, 7-2 CAC)
on Wednesday January 31st. The ball goes up at 6 p.m.
