FREDERICKSBURG, VA (1/13/07)—The Lady Bison continue on
their quest for the “click”—that moment where
everything flows perfectly; nothing seems impossible, a dynamic
that is desired by many sportsters, achieved by a few. Brittainy
Payne got the Bison on the scoreboard after Mary Washington had
gone on a 15-0 run. Over the course of the game, the Bison
struggled to find their groove as they lost to the Eagles,
77-26.
Coach Kylan Loney set a game plan where the Bison would play
“aggressive and strong defense” despite the height
deficit. The Eagles sported a lineup that featured four
starters between 6'0 and 6'3. Starting out,
“our defense was good, but the [size] caught up to us. We
need to keep working on our conditioning,” the newcomer coach
added.
“However, I was impressed with our girls; they remained
positive, showing strong team spirit, and I'm very happy
about that.” Brittainy Payne finished with a team-high 8
points, while senior Jessica Salisbury posted 6 points.
Salisbury also had notches in almost every category, with 3
rebounds, 1 assist, and a block. Freshman Keyonna Murrell led
the rebounding charge with five, while Stacy Jones had 3 rebounds
and 2 steals.
Senior guard Pia Marie Paulone, who put in 6 points continued the
optimism by adding that “we have a team to look up
to—we will learn to play better.” Loney finished
with an emphatic “bouncing back, playing again, and learning
is what the goal is here. That's what [we] want to
see. It will be interesting to see how the team responds to
this kind of situation.”
Monday, January 15th brings the 12th game of the season as the Lady
Bison (2-9, 0-4 CAC) travel to McDaniel College for a
non-conference game. The ball goes up at 7:30 p.m.
