WASHINGTON – The Gallaudet University women's volleyball team played host to nearby Marymount (Va.) University in a non-conference match Wednesday night in the Field House and fell in straight sets.
Gallaudet (7-6) pushed Marymount (6-7) in the first set as the Bison hit .324 with 13 kills on 34 attempts and only two errors. The Bison led early 5-3 and later scored four straight points to take a 9-6 lead. The Saints scored the next six points to regain the lead for good en route to a 25-20 first-set victory. Marymount controlled the final two sets, winning 25-13 and 25-15.
Senior outside hitter
Brielle Worley (Amarillo, Texas) led the Bison with 16 kills on 50 swings and hit .200. Worley completed the double-double with 12 digs. Senior outside hitter
Jada Zarembka (Riverside, Calif.) was second on the team with 11 kills. First-year setter
Gracie Gloster (Clark, N.J.) passed out 29 assists and made eight digs.
Marymount was paced by outside hitters Brigid Donahue and Sabrina Schoeberlein with nine and eight kills, respectively. Senior setter Emerson Aber recorded 16 assists and libero Renae Rohrer came up with a match-best 22 digs.
BISON TRACKS
- Worley and Zarembka accounted for 27 of GU's 33 kills (81.8 percent).
- Sophomore middle hitter Kayla Debrow (Jacksonville, Fla.) has recorded at least one block in 10 straight matches.
- Graduate student opposite Bri Eilderts (Omaha, Neb.) finished with a career-high nine digs.
- First-year middle hitter Sulianie Casella (Buda, Texas) made her first collegiate start.
- First-year players Sirrah Wilding (Santa Fe, N.M.), Nirveli Smith (Henrietta, N.Y.) and Adriana Jimenez Bonilla (East Elmhurst, N.Y.) all saw action for the Bison.
- Gallaudet tallied five aces but served up a dozen errors.
- Gloster has passed out 20 or more assists in every match this season.
- Worley has recorded a double-double in four of the last six matches.
- The loss snapped Gallaudet's three-match winning streak against the Saints.
UP NEXT
Gallaudet will head north to Williamsport, Pa., this weekend for three matches. The Bison travel to Lycoming College (3-12) on Friday, Oct. 2, for a 7 p.m. non-conference match to begin the road trip. The two teams last met in 2018.
