LANGHORNE, Pa. – The Gallaudet University's women's basketball team continued its surge with a 67-48 victory over Cairn University here Wednesday night, extending a three-game winning streak.
Gallaudet (6-13, 4-6 United East) jumped out to an 8-0 lead in the opening two minutes and dominated the paint with 16 points in the first quarter. First-year forward/center
Natalie Greene (Fresno, Texas) scored seven points as the Bison closed the first quarter, 25-7.
The buff and blue stayed hot in the second quarter, opening with a 16-4 run in the first six minutes. Gallaudet controlled the momentum by scoring 14 points in the paint and nine off turnovers, took 43-16 lead into halftime.
Cairn (2-17, 1-10 United East) were able to regroup and outscored Gallaudet 32-24 in the second half but the Bison's hot start in the first half was too much for the Highlanders.
Sophomore forward
Sophia Wascher (Noblesville, Ind.) matched her career high with a team-lead 15 points, added eight rebounds and three assists. Greene finished the night with 14 points and six rebounds. Sophomore forward
Mackenzie Schirg (Factoryville, Pa.) added nine points, grabbed seven rebounds and passed for three assists. Junior forward
Kate Aquino Uribe (Downey, Calif.) scored a career high eight points and added four points off the bench. Senior guard
Sunita Schmidjorg (Austin, Texas) added four points, six rebounds and four assists while continuing her defensive surge with three steals. She has recorded 25 steals over the last six games.
Cairn was led by Dezaray Bright, who posted a double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds and added six steals in the loss.

Gallaudet will travel to Penn State Abington (15-6, 8-2 United East) on Saturday, Feb. 7, for a 3 p.m. conference game. The Nittany Lions won the first meeting 78-55 on Nov. 15 in a non-conference contest.
