Gallaudet clipped by Penn St.-Abington on the road

ABINGTON, Pa. — The Gallaudet University women's basketball team dropped a 91-33 United East conference game to Penn State Abington here Saturday afternoon in the Athletic Building.

Gallaudet (6-14, 4-7 United East) were limited to 23.1 percent shooting from the field and were outscored in every quarter as Penn St.-Abington (16-6, 9-2 United East) pulled away early and maintained control throughout the game.

Gallaudet trailed 39-22 at halftime and was unable to find a rhythm offensively in the second half against the Nittany Lions' defensive pressure. Penn St.-Abington scored 51 points off 38 turnovers.

First-year forward/center Kayla Debrow (Jacksonville, Fla.) recorded her fifth double-double of the season with a team-high 10 points and 11 rebounds. Debrow added two blocks to increase her total to 15 in the last six games. Senior guard Sunita Schmidjorg (Austin, Texas) and sophomore forward Sophia Wascher (Noblesville, Ind.) added six points each. First year forward/center Natalie Greene (Fresno, Texas) added five points in 15 minutes after foul trouble limited her early in the first half.

The Nittany Lions were led by sisters Nia Newman and Naila Newman, who scored 25 and 22 points, respectively.
