LANDOVER, Md. – A quartet of Gallaudet University men's track and field student-athletes climbed the podium for six different events here Friday at the 2026 United East Indoor Track & Field Championships in the Prince George's Sports & Learning Center just outside of the District of Columbia.
Gallaudet had six podium finishes (top three spots in an event) in the men's events. Senior
Walter Douglas (Sanford, Fla.) repeated as the conference champion in the long jump while junior
Navar Harris (Charleston, W.Va.) won the shot put to help capture two gold medals for the Bison.
GU finished in fourth place out of five teams with 53 team points.
Douglas had a top leap of 6.56 meters (21 feet, 6.25 inches) in the long jump, a mark he reached twice out of six leaps. Harris posted a top toss of 13.67 meters, on his third throw, in the shot put to win the event he placed second in last year.
First-year long-distance runner
Sevan Ikeda (Fremont, Calif.) brought home three medals on Friday afternoon. Ikeda finished second in the 1-mile run with a time of 4:45.84 and took second in the 5,000-meter run (16:19.76). Ikeda had to dig down deep to come back and take third in the 800-meter run (2:08.17), which was a season best time.
Earlier in the day, junior
Andrew Suarez (Fairview, Texas) improved on his own school record in the weight throw. Suarez put up a distance of 13.37 meters (43 feet, 10.5 inches) on his second toss in the event. Suarez's previous school record mark was 13.14 meters (43 feet, 1.50 inches) set at the Marlins First Chance meet last December.
Junior
Andrae' Green (Washington, D.C.) just missed the podium in the triple jump as he finished fourth with a top leap of 12.45 meters (40 feet, 10.25 inches).
St. Mary's (Md.) College won its second consecutive United East conference championship as the Seahawks earned points in 13 of the 16 events to finish the meet with 167 team points.
Penn State Harrisburg finished second with 150 team points. Lancaster Bible College (LBC) was third with 104. Gallaudet checked in at fourth (53) while Carlow University placed fifth (eight).
St. Mary's Solomon David took home Field Athlete of the Year and Rookie of the Year honors and Seahawks head coach Reava Potter was picked as Coach of the Year. LBC's David Helms took home the Track Athlete of the Year honor for a second straight season as he picked up five first-place medals for the Chargers.
