SALEM, Va. – Gallaudet University men's indoor track and field first year
Sevan Ikeda (Fremont, Calif.) broke a 10-year-old school record in the 5,000 meter run Saturday at the Joe LaRocco Invitational, held at Cregger Field House on the Roanoke College campus.
Ikeda won the 5,000-meter run event, setting a new school record with a time of 15:32.92. Ikeda broke the previous mark of 15:46.72, set by Otto Kingstedt on Jan. 30, 2016, at the Darius Dixon Memorial Invitational in Lynchburg, Va.
Junior thrower
Navar Harris (Charleston, W.Va.) finished ninth overall in the shot put with a top toss of 12.84 meters (42 feet, 1.50 inches).
Junior thrower
Andrew Suarez (Fairview, Texas) participated in both throwing events, placed 18th overall in the shot put with a top mark of 11.92 meters and 22nd in the weight throw with a top toss of 11.43 meters.
First year
Roud Valcin (Naples, Fla.) competed in the long jump event and placed 20th with a personal-best leap of 5.84 meters (19 feet 2 inches).
BISON TRACKS
- Senior Walter Douglas (Sanford, Fla.) finished 29th in the 200-meter dash (24.34)
- First year Jason Alford (Dayton, Ohio) took 40th in the 200-meter dash (24.80) and 46th in the 60-meter dash (7.80).
- Sophomore Kila Silva-Ewan (Honolulu, Hawaii) was 28th in the shot put with a top toss of 10.66 meters and 31st in the weight throw with a top toss of 9.32 meters.
- First year Ibukunoluwa Oluoni (Dallas, Texas) was 26th in the weight throw with a top toss of 10.54 meters and 38th in the shot put with a top toss of 9.07 meters.
- Sophomore Joe Bryan (Liberty, Mo.) took 38th place in the 800-meter run (2:23.12).

Gallaudet will take a two week break before competing at the United East Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships on Friday, Feb. 27, in Landover, Md., at the Prince George's Sports & Learning Complex.
