LATHAM, N.Y. – The United East Conference announced its weekly conference student-athlete of the week awards for Jan. 19 and Gallaudet University first-year forward/center Kayla Debrow (Jacksonville, Fla.) was named Women's Basketball Defensive Player of the Week.
Debrow made opponents think twice about driving into the post area as the first-year center tallied eight blocks and grabbed 30 rebounds with 17 on the defensive end of the court in two conference wins last week. Debrow scored 12 of her career-high 15 points in the first half of last Tuesday's 63-50 win at home over Lancaster Bible College. Debrow tallied a double-double with 14 rebounds and swatted two shots, passed out two assists and made one steal. Debrow followed that up another double-double of 10 points and 16 rebounds last Saturday at Keystone College. The Bison erased an 18-point deficit en route to a 50-41 victory and Debrow helped the comeback with six blocks, three steals and two assists. For the week, Debrow recorded 25 points, 30 rebounds (17 defensive), eight blocks, four steals and four assists as the Bison went 2-0.
University of Valley Forge junior Lucy Mauerman was named the Women's Basketball Offensive Player of the Week after totaling 56 points in two games while shooting 50.0 percent from the field (14-of-28), 53.8 percent from three-point range (7-of-13), and 75.0 percent from the free-throw line (21-of-28).
GU HONORS
This is Gallaudet's second United East Women's Basketball Player of the Week honor this season. This is Debrow's first United East Player of the Week award this season and in her women's basketball career.
