NEW YORK – The Gallaudet University women's volleyball team knew they had a big task here Friday night as they played nation's 23rd ranked team, New York University, in an NCAA Division III contest at the John A. Paulson Center.
The Bison lost in straight sets 20-25, 17-25, 19-25, to the Violets on the first day of the NYU Invitational.
In the first set, Gallaudet (2-3) played a close one with the Violets as the Bison only trailed by one, 15-16, before NYU went on a 6-2 run and won, 20-25.
The Violets (2-2) jumped out to an early lead, 13-5, in the second set and the buff and blue were not able to catch up and lost the second set, 17-25.
The third set was more exciting with nine ties and two lead changes. However, the Violets were able to pull away, 19-25, to complete the 3-0 sweep.
Junior outside hitter
Brielle Worley (Amarillo, Texas) led the Bison with 12 kills while junior middle hitter
Jada Zarembka (Riverside, Calif.) had seven kills. Junior setter
Ella Gamble (Cullowhee, N.C.) passed out 25 assists. Junior outside hitter
Citrine Lummer (Frederick, Md.) finished with a team best 12 digs and six kills.
Stevens Institute of Technology and Susquehanna University played the first game of the NYU Invitational and Stevens won 3-0.

GU will face Susquehanna (0-4) and Stevens (3-1) tomorrow (Saturday, Sept. 6) at 10 a.m. and 3 p.m., respectively.
