CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. – It was a milestone day for the Gallaudet University women's volleyball program as two career marks were met here Saturday afternoon in a road tri-match at Wilson College.
Senior setter
Ella Gamble (Cullowhee, N.C.) recorded her 3,000th career assist in a Gallaudet University uniform and Bison head coach
Lynn Ray Boren notched his 450th and 451st career victories as Gallaudet posted back-to-back 3-0 wins over the host Phoenix and Hollins University.
Gamble surpassed the milestone in the second set of the opening match as the Bison rolled in three sets (25-6,25-12,25-16) over host Wilson (0-12, 0-1 United East) in the first United East conference match of the season.
Gamble finished the first match with 33 assists, three blocks and two aces. Junior outside hitter
Brielle Worley (Amarillo, Texas) paced the attack with a match-high 17 kills and a season-high four service aces, along with seven digs. Junior middle hitter
Jada Zarembka (Riverside, Calif.) recorded her second double-double of the year with 13 kills and a match-high 12 digs.
Gallaudet (11-5, 1-0 United East) posted a .521 hitting percentage which is a new season high after tallying .395 last Wednesday vs. Goucher with 44 kills on 73 swings and six errors.
In the second match, Gallaudet stayed hot with another sweep. The Bison defeated Hollins (5-9) in straight sets 25-17, 25-14, 25-15. The Bison hit .411 as a team and limited themselves to just six errors for the third consecutive match.
Senior outside hitter
Citrine Lummer (Frederick, Md.) led the Bison with a match-high 13 kills, added five digs and three aces. Worley recorded her eighth double-double of the season with 11 kills and 11 digs. Senior libero
Nicole Hicks had a season-high five aces along with five digs.
With Saturday's wins, Coach Boren improves to 451-250 (.643) in 20 seasons at Gallaudet. He trails Gallaudet's all-time winningest women's volleyball coach
Peg Worthington, who posted a record of 615-305 (.668) in her 26-year Hall of Fame career (1970-81, 1984-97).
Gamble, who transferred from Carson-Newman University (2021-22), is within reach of
TraciAnn Hoglind (2012-15) who tallied 3,460 assists. Gamble recorded 38 assists in eight matches at the NCAA Division II school. The Gallaudet program assist record is held by Athletic Hall of Famer
Pia Marie Paulone (2003-06) with 4,840 assists.
