ABINGTON, Pa. – It was a special day for Gallaudet University first-year runner
Sevan Ikeda (Fremont, Calif.) who went into enemy territory and left victorious as the Bison runner won the Abington Invitational here Saturday morning at Lormier Park.
Ikeda linked up with Penn St.-Abington freshman Mason Kaminski, who was running on his home course, and the two first-year runners shined among a field of 90 runners. Ikeda won the 8K race in 28 minutes and 3.95 seconds to edge out Kaminski (28:06.03). The pair posted an identical pace time of 5:39. There was a gap of 14 seconds before third-place runner Trent Jordan from Penn St.-Berks finished in 28:20.89. Lancaster Bible College junior David Helms was fourth as he crossed the finish line in 28:33.39. The United East quartet continues to test each other as they lead up to the end of the season conference championship meet in November.
Gallaudet sophomore
Allen Davis (Port St. Lucie, Fla.) placed 60th with a time of 37:57.27 which improved over a minute and 20 seconds from his last 8K race. Fellow sophomore
Jay Yang (Darien, Ill.) was 62nd with a time of 38:06.38.
Penn St.-Berks won the team competition with a team score of 36 points, which is tallied by the placement of your first five runners to complete the competition. Thaddeus Stevens was second (53) followed by Kean University in third (76), Penn St.-Abington in fourth (129) and the Chargers from Lancaster Bible (141) rounded out the top five. There were 11 schools that posted a team score, Gallaudet was not one of them.

Ikeda will have an opportunity to post another Top 10 program mark next Saturday, Sept. 27, when the Bison head back to Maryland's Eastern Shore to participate in the Don Cathcart Invitational hosted by Salisbury University at WinterPlace Park.
