PETERSBURG, Va. - Gallaudet University first-year runner
Sevan Ikeda (Fremont, Calif.) posted another Top 10 time as the Bison competed at the Virginia State University Cross Country Challenge on a cool Friday afternoon at the VSU Randolph Farm.
Ikeda finished fourth overall with a time of 26 minutes and 17.94 seconds, which is the eighth fastest in Gallaudet school history. This was Ikeda's fifth collegiate race and the third time he has cracked the program's Top 10 list.
Gallaudet's other runners in the meet were sophomores
Jay Yang (Darien, Ill.) and
Trent Gobble (Austin, Texas), who both posted personal record times. Yang was 32nd with a time of 34:50.59, nearly 40 seconds faster than his previous best time of 35:28.00 set two weeks ago. Gobble made his season debut and finished 43rd with a time of 40:51.44. The Bison did not receive a team score since they did not have five runners finish the race.
Virginia Union University freshman Rodgers Korir won the 8K race in 25:07.56 as he finished first out of 48 runners. Korir helped the Panthers win the meet with 33 team points to edge out the host Virginia State (36 team points). Bowie State University was a distant third with 87 points followed by Regent University (94) and Chowan University (122). The field was dominated by NCAA Division II runners with a handful of Division I and III runners.
