WASHINGTON – On a hot and humid Friday evening, the Gallaudet University men's soccer team fell to Mary Baldwin University, 3-0, in a non-conference game at Hotchkiss Field during Mental Health Awareness Week.
Gallaudet (0-6) allowed an early goal in the second minute and trailed 2-0 at halftime before the Flying Squirrels added a third goal in the second half.
Junior midfielder
Joe Bryan (Liberty, Mo.) recorded a shot on goal in the eighth minute, as he aimed for the bottom center, but it was saved by MBU goalkeeper Preston Bentley. Senior midfielder
Matteo Giansanti (Rome, Italy) nearly broke through in the 44th minute, but his shot sailed just wide right.
The Flying Squirrels were led by senior forward Cohen Croslin, who tallied five points on two goals and one assist.
Before the game, both teams gathered for a group photo in recognition of Mental Health Awareness Week at Gallaudet. Senior
Tristan Torbett (Asheville, N.C.) delivered a presentation on mental health and available resources. Gallaudet's Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) staff handed out free t-shirts to fans to promote awareness.
