MEDIA, Pa. – The Gallaudet University men's soccer team opened United East Conference play on Saturday afternoon with a 2-1 road victory over Penn State Brandywine.

Xavier De Leon (Methuen, Mass.) headed in the go ahead goal in the 74th minute off a corner kick from senior
Matteo Giansanti (Rome, Italy) to give Gallaudet the 2-1 lead.
Gallaudet (1-6, 1-0 United East) scored the first goal in the ninth minute with an unassisted goal from Giansanti. The Bison took the 1-0 lead into halftime.
Penn St.-Brandywine (1-8, 0-1 United East) tied the match in the 68th minute as Derek Lopez scored off an assist from Antonio Marcelo.
The Bison held a 16-12 edge in shots and took one more cornerkick than the Nittany Lions, 3-2.

John McCabe (Norwalk, Conn.) recorded three saves in the win.
This was the third consecutive year these two teams met on the pitch and the first time Gallaudet defeated Penn St.-Brandywine.

Gallaudet will return home to Hotchkiss Field on Wednesday, Oct. 1, to host Penn St.-Berks (1-8) at 5 p.m.
