MEDIA, Pa. – Gallaudet University first-year runner
Sevan Ikeda (Fremont, Calif.) finished second here Friday evening at the United East Preview meet hosted by Penn State Brandywine.
Ikeda navigated the technical and hilly course that weaved in and out of the woods and completed the men's 8K race in 28 minutes and 19.53 seconds.
The Williamson College of the Trades freshman runner Chase Ely won the race in 27:05.11, a full minute plus before Ikeda crossed the finish line.
The silver lining for Ikeda was that he was the first runner from a United East conference school to finish the race. Penn St.-Abington freshman Mason Kaminski was third with a time of 28:29.37. The top five was rounded out by sophomore Trent Jordan from Penn St.-Berks in fourth (28:32.37) and junior David Helms from Lancaster Bible College in fifth (28:33.11).
There is a good chance this quartet will meet again in seven weeks when the 2025 United East championship is on the line.
Gallaudet sophomore
Allen Davis (Port St. Lucie, Fla.) was the other Bison in the race as he placed 71st with a time of 39:17.04.
Penn St.-Berks won the team competition with a team score of 49 points, which is tallied by the placement of your first five runners to complete the competition. Penn College was a distant second (74) followed by The Williamson College of the Trades in third (93), St. Mary's College of Maryland in fourth (93) and Rutgers University-Camden in fifth (129). Williamson won the tie-breaker with St. Mary's with Ely's first-place finish. There were 11 schools that posted a team score, Gallaudet was not one of them.
