LANDOVER, Md. – The buff and blue colors of Gallaudet University were on display here Friday at the 2025 United East Indoor Track & Field Championships at the Prince George's Sports & Learning Center just outside of the District of Columbia.
Gallaudet had eight podium finishes (top three spots in an event) in the men's events. Sophomore
Andrew Bibbs (Columbia, S.C.) won the high jump and senior
Walter Douglas (Sanford, Fla.) took first in the long jump to deliver GU its two gold medals.
The Bison finished in fourth place out of five teams with 74 team points.
Bibbs won the high jump event with a top leap of 1.82 meters (5 feet, 11.50 inches). Douglas started the day in the long jump event and posted a top mark of 6.60 meters (21 feet, 8 inches) on his fourth of six jumps.
Junior
Enow Otto Jr. (Silver Spring, Md.) finished right behind Douglas in the long jump in second place. Otto Jr.'s best jump was 6.15 meters (20 feet, 2.25 inches).
On the track,
Andrae' Green (Washington, D.C.) placed third in the 400-meter dash with a time of 54.17 seconds. Sophomore
Sincere Vazquez (Hollywood, Fla.) placed third in the 800-meter run (2:09.07).
In the throwing cage, sophomore
Navar Harris (Charleston, W.Va.) took second in the shot put with a top toss of 13.34 meters (43 feet, 9.25 inches). Fellow sophomore
Andrew Suarez (Fairview, Texas) finished third in the weight throw with a top toss of 12.04 meters (39 feet, 6 inches) which is a new personal record.
GU completed the meet in the 4x400 meter relay as the Bison team of Douglas, Vazquez, Green and sophomore
Gabe Cadete (Nashua, N.H.) finished third with a time of 3:41.86.
St. Mary's (Md.) College won its first United East conference championship as the Seahawks earned points in 13 of the 16 events to finish the meet with 181 team points.
Penn State Harrisburg finished second with 119 team points. Lancaster Bible College (LBC) was third with 105. Gallaudet checked in at fourth (74) while Carlow University placed fifth (three).
LBC's David Helms took home the Track Athlete of the Year and Rookie of the Year. Penn St.-Harrisburg earned two major awards as Jonathon Luo was picked as Field Athlete of the Year and his coach, Ryan Hart, brought home Coach of the Year honors.
LBC's Dustin Frantz took home Elite 20 honors as the top student-athlete with the highest grade point average among the top four teams in the final standings.
BISON TRACKS
- Bibbs finished fourth in the triple jump (11.79 meters), eighth in the long jump (5.16 meters)
- Douglas finished fourth in the 60-meter dash (7.31 seconds) and fifth in the 200-meter dash (23.89)
- Green was sixth in the 200-meter dash (24.28)
- Cadete posted a season best in the 400-meter dash (57.12)
- Suarez was seventh in the shot put (10.97 meters), new season best
- First year Hawkins Morgan (Whitesboro, Texas) set a new personal record in the 1-mile run with a time of 5:38.00
- First-year Joe Bryan (Liberty, Mo.) had a personal best in the 60-meter dash preliminaries with a time of 7.89 seconds
