Bison men’s basketball wins first road game in four years

ABINGTON, Pa. - The last time the Gallaudet University men's basketball team left the court after a road win was Dec. 4, 2021. The Bison got their long-awaited away win as GU defeated Penn State Abington 77-65 here Thursday night in a United East Conference game in the Athletic Building.

The victory put an end to the Bison's 45 away game losing streak.

In the first half Gallaudet (3-20, 3-12 United East) and Penn St.-Abington (3-21, 2-13 United East) had a very good battle as they both faced four ties and eight lead changes. The Bison had been leading most of the time, 17 minutes total, and GU went to the locker room with a score of 39-38.

First nine minutes of the second half was a nail biting game after they were tied 55-55 at the 9:08 mark. Gallaudet jumped to finish the game with a 22-10 run to secure the sweep over the Nittany Lions and the third win of the season. Senior forward Blessed Mbogo (Silver Spring, Md.) scored eight points in the last 11 minutes of the game.

Gallaudet had four different players in double digits. Mbogo finished with a game-high 24 points. Mbogo swished shooting 8 for 10 from the foul line and made two 3-pointers in 28 minutes due to foul trouble. Senior guard Malosi Viena (Waipahu, Hawaii) added 18 points. Senior forward Brandon Chung (Kahului, Hawaii) recorded a double-double with 16 points and 12 rebounds. First-year guard Alex Ortman (Norway, Mich.) added 10 points and passed for three assists.
