GU’s women basketball begin 2025-26 season at home

WASHINGTON – The 2025-26 Gallaudet University women's basketball season started here Sunday afternoon on Padden Court in the Field House. The Bison dropped a 93-56 game to Washington Adventist University (NAIA) in a non-conference game.

Gallaudet (0-1) jumped out to a quick start as sophomore forward/guard Mackenzie Schirg (Factoryville, Pa.) drained a 3-pointer just 15 seconds in for the early 3-0 lead. First-year forward Natalie Greene (Fresno, Texas) made first collegiate jumpshot to extend the GU lead to 5-2 at the 8:36 mark. 

Washington Adventist (2-0) went on a 13-1 run in just over two minutes to take a 15-6 lead. The Shock made 52.6 percent of their shots from the field in the first quarter where they led 23-14.
WAU took advantage of Gallaudet's 14 second quarter turnovers to build a comfortable 48-23 lead at the break.

The buff and blue were outscored by the Shock in the final two quarters, as WAU never looked back and sealed the win. GU scored 21 points in the fourth quarter the most by the Bison in a quarter against the Shock.

GU had three different players in double digits as Greene finished with a game-high 18 points and grabbed nine rebounds and she went 8-for-11 at the free-throw line. Schirg notched her second career double-double, finishing with 11 points and 10 rebounds. Sophomore forward Sophia Wascher (Noblesville, Ind.) matched her career high with 12 points and added five rebounds. Wascher went 4-for-6 at the free-throw line. Junior guard Seanna Baird added nine points and dished out four assists. First-year guard Tiana Starayev (Noblesville, Ind.) made her collegiate debut, finishing with three points and four assists.

The Shock had four players score in double figures, led by Heather Middleton who scored 14 points in the win.

BISON TRACKS
  • Junior forward Kate Aquino Uribe (Downey, Calif.) scored three points and grabbed seven rebounds off the bench
  • Gallaudet and Washington Adventist played each other for the first time in recent memory
  • GU's eight-game home winning streak was snapped. The Bison last lost at home on Nov. 26, 2024 to St. Mary's (Md.), 66-61.

Gallaudet will regroup and welcome Penn St.-Abington (0-1) to campus this Saturday, Nov. 15, at 2 p.m. for a non-conference game.
