VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – After a two-week hiatus, the Gallaudet University men's basketball team returned to the hardwood here Saturday to face Regent University at Gateway Christian School in a non-conference game.
Gallaudet was a little rusty against the Royals as the host jumped out to an 11-4 lead and later increased the margin to 17 points before taking a 47-33 lead into the half. In the second half, GU was outscored 44-29 as Regent won the game, 91-62.
Gallaudet (0-3 overall and 0-2 in NCAA play) was shorthanded as several members of the team are still in Tokyo for the 2025 Deaflympics.
The Bison were led offensively by first-year guard
JeVaughn Sargent (Laurel, Md.), who came off the bench to net 17 points in 19 minutes. Sophomore guards
Brandon Washington (Citronelle, Ala.) and
Luke Florio (St. Augustine, Fla.) scored nine points each. First-year forward
Jayden Orsi-Pedersen (Frederick, Md.) chipped in eight points off the bench.
Regent (2-2) was led by Darrin Clark's 15 points off the bench and junior guard Antoine Brown's 13 points. In total, the Royals had four players in double figures.
