Seniors get their moment to shine in final GU home football game of season

WASHINGTON – The senior class on the Gallaudet University football team got recognized and celebrated here Saturday afternoon at Hotchkiss Field as the Bison hosted their final home game of the season.

GU ran into a tough opponent in Hampden-Sydney College, who is receiving votes in the latest Division III coaches' poll, in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference game before a crowd of 442.

Hampden-Sydney (7-1, 5-1 ODAC) scored touchdowns on its first nine possessions in the first half and never looked back en route to a 61-8 win over Gallaudet (1-7, 1-6 ODAC).

The Tigers went to their bench early and often as GU controlled the clock in the second half with several lengthy drives. Gallaudet's first drive in the third quarter took 13 plays and covered 74 yards and ended with a Bison touchdown. First-year wide receiver Dakota Fisher (Lake City, Fla.) ran for a five-yard touchdown at the 5:06 mark in the third quarter. Gallaudet converted on a two-point conversion when senior linebacker Jacob Hundley (McKee, Ky.) went under center and into the end zone for two points.

Gallaudet's defense was able to keep the Tigers off the scoreboard in the second half and shut out the visitors from adding to their 53-point lead.

The last time Gallaudet football held a team scoreless in the second half was last season (Sept. 28, 2024) against George Mason University's club team where the Bison won 48-0 at Hotchkiss Field.

Hampden-Sydney scored five touchdowns in the first quarter as Gallaudet threw back-to-back interceptions with one returned 43 yards by Parks Cromwell for a touchdown at the 5:48 mark. The Tigers scored 13 points off turnovers on Saturday.

The Tigers accumulated 522 yards of offense (291 yards on the ground) while the Bison tallied 256 yards (141 on the ground). Fisher ended the game with 14 carries for 94 yards and finished with 100 all-purpose yards. Senior running back Carter Johnson (McCall, Idaho) ran for a career-high 44 yards on 10 carries.

Senior punter Andrae' Green (Washington, D.C.) had four punts travel 126 yards (31.5 yards per punt average) with a long of 42. Green returned six kickoffs for 85 yards with a long of 20.

Hampden-Sydney was paced by the one-two punch of Will Foley (five carries, 98 yards) and Terry Hicks (seven carries, 79 yards) who scored two touchdowns each. H-SC quarterbacks completed 17 of 31 passes for 231 yards and three scores between the trio of signal callers. Connor Creech led the trio with 127 yards and two scores on 9 of 15 passing.

GU senior linebacker Taran Johnson (Kyle, Texas) made a career-high 10 tackles (eight solo) while Hundley finished with eight tackles (four solo). Senior defensive backs Joshua Saaty (Ada, Okla.) and Zefan Nathanson (Manor, Texas) finished with five and four tackles, respectively.
