Gallaudet serves up records on Dig Pink Night, Gamble joins NCAA Division III record with 25 consecutive points served

WASHINGTON – It was a memorable evening for the Gallaudet University women's volleyball team in more than one way here Wednesday as the Bison played host to Rosemont College in a United East conference match on Padden Court.

Gallaudet (14-5, 4-0 United East) served its way into the record books with an eye-popping 25-0, 25-2, 25-5 defeat of Rosemont (0-11, 0-4 United East) on Dig Pink Night in the Field House. This is the first 25-0 set win for Gallaudet in its storied history.

Senior setter Ella Gamble (Cullowhee, N.C.) served 25 consecutive points in the first set to become the fourth NCAA Division III women's volleyball player to do so since the 25-point scoring format change took place in 2008. The last NCAA Division III women's volleyball player to do this was Sierra Troyer from Eastern Nazarene College against Lesley University on Oct. 22, 2022. It was Gamble that served out the final five points for Gallaudet last Saturday at Keystone College to give her 30 consecutive points.

Gamble broke her career-high for service aces in a match (11) with 12 aces in the first set against the Ravens. Gamble, the reigning United East Offensive Player of the Week, finished the match with a new career-high 13 service aces and passed out 33 assists. The Bison as a team finished with 25 aces to best 24 set against Saint Elizabeth University (Oct. 16, 2010).

Gallaudet finished the match with one of its highest team hitting percentage in program history with .642 as the Bison tallied 38 kills on 53 swings and only four errors. The Bison posted a .735 hitting percentage against Trinity Washington University back on Oct. 4, 2022, in a 3-0 sweep they won 25-2, 25-4, 25-4. The 25-2 set win was the previous lowest scoring set during Coach Lynn Ray Boren's tenure until Wednesday night's 25-0 set win.

The Bison continued its consecutive point streak in the second set as Gallaudet jumped out to a quick 13-0 lead before an attack error got the Ravens on the scoreboard. GU scored the first 38 points of Wednesday's match and the final six points last Saturday at Keystone to give the buff and blue 44 consecutive points scored.

Rosemont's seven points in the match came on four Bison attack errors and three service errors. Raven libero Jana Ehnot led the visitors with four digs in the loss.

GU junior outside hitter Brielle Worley (Amarillo, Texas) tallied 12 kills on 16 attempts and two errors (.625 hitting percentage) to go with nine digs and three aces. Junior middle hitter Jada Zarembka (Riverside, Calif.) finished with eight kills, four digs and one block. Senior outside hitter Citrine Lummer (Frederick, Md.) tallied seven kills, nine digs and two aces. Senior libero Nicole Hicks (Corona, Calif.) was the third Bison with nine digs and added two aces. First-year middle hitter Kayla DeBrow (Jacksonville, Fla.) finished with seven kills.

Before the game, four volleyball players and Kyle Amber Clark from GU's Health and Wellness Program gave a brief presentation to show support for Dig Pink and the focus on cancer research and awareness.
