Hot shooting propels Gallaudet to a third straight victory

READING, Pa. – The Gallaudet University women's basketball team flexed its muscle here Wednesday night as the Bison used a strong first half to lead them to an 87-61 victory over Penn St.-Berks in a United East Conference game.

Gallaudet (6-8, 3-2 United East) made 64.8 percent of its first-half shots (24-for-37) as the Bison stormed out to a 27-21 lead in the first quarter and led 55-39 at the half. GU made 11 of 15 shots (73.3 percent) in the second quarter, including one 3-pointer, as the buff and blue tallied 28 points.

GU's largest lead was 31 points late in the fourth quarter when the Bison led 85-54 en route to their third straight victory.

Sophomore guard Cam Lexow (Abington, Pa.) led all-scorers with 23 points as she grabbed six rebounds, passed out three assists, made three steals and two blocks in the win.

The Bison had four players in double figures including Lexow, first-year forward Mackenzie Schirg (Factoryville, Pa.), senior guard Claire Ruiz-Tucker (Middletown, Md.) and senior guard Raj Guettler (Frederick, Md.).

Schirg scored 14 points, five rebounds and one block while Ruiz-Tucker netted 13 points and recorded a game-high five steals and four assists. Guettler matched Ruiz-Tucker with four assists and chipped in 12 points and grabbed a game-high nine rebounds.

Junior center Hannah Puent (Indianapolis, Ind.), Gallaudet's fifth starter, finished with eight points, three assists and two boards in the win.

Penn St.-Berks (0-11, 0-5 United East) was led offensively by Haily Miller and Ashlyn Clark who scored 12 and 10 points, respectively, for the Nittany Lions.
