READING, Pa. – In a back-and-forth game the Gallaudet University men's basketball team came up close against United East conference foe Penn St-Berks, 81-68 despite four Bison posted double-digit scoring efforts here Wednesday evening in the Beaver Community Center.
The lead changed 13 times between Gallaudet (1-12, 1-4 United East) and Penn St.- Berks (4-8, 3-2 United East) throughout the game and four times the score was tied.
In the first half, GU held its biggest lead of 14-6 start at the 15:04 mark then the lead slipped away with down by two, 19-17 at the 10:10 mark. The Bison were able to bounce back to take another regained the lead 32-25 in the less than three minutes left and Penn St. -Berks went on a 12-3 run to finish the first half to take a 37-35 lead into halftime thanks to three 3-pointers made.
In the second half, after the sixth lead change, Senior center
Brandon Chung (Kahului, Hawaii) made the layup to take a 47-46 lead at the 14:26 mark. The Lions closed out the game by outscoring the Bison, 35-21 with a support of 16 points off turnovers.
Chung notched a double-double with team-high 15 points and 14 rebounds. It is his sixth career double-double. First-year guard
Jory Valencia (Riverside, Calif.) added 14 points and nine boards. Senior forward
Blessed Mbogo (Silver Spring, Md.) added 14 points and eight boards and two steals. First-year guard
Alex Ortman (Norway, Mich.) tallied 12 points, four steals, four assists and grabbed three rebounds.
