Gallaudet men's team gets back on track at the Marlin Invitational

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – The Gallaudet men's indoor track and field team returned to action here Friday at the Marlin Invitational hosted by Virginia Wesleyan University after a long break from its last competition. The Bison competed against Division I, II and III teams at the Virginia Beach Sports Center, the same location as last year's NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships.

There were no team scores at the Marlin Invitational.

Sophomore jumper Andrew Bibbs (Columbia, S.C.) took sixth in the high jump when he cleared 1.80 meters (5 feet, 10.75 inches) after he cleared 1.70 and 1.75 meters.

Sophomore thrower Navar Harris (Charleston, W.Va.) took seventh in the shot put with a top toss of 13.25 meters (43 feet, 5.75 inches) on his second throw of six.

Sophomore Andrew Suarez (Fairview, Texas) used his first attempt in the weight throw to post a mark of 9.96 meters (32 feet, 8.25 inches) to place 13th overall.

Junior jumper Enow Otto Jr. (Silver Spring, Md.) finished 16th in the long jump with a top mark of 6.10 meters (20 feet, and a quarter inch).

Over on the track sophomore Sincere Vazquez (Hollywood, Fla.) finished 11th in the 800-meter run (2:10.01).

Senior Walter Douglas (Sanford, Fla.) was GU's top finisher in the 100- and 200-meter dash events. Douglas placed 31st in the 200-meter dash (23.87) and 35th in the 60-meter dash preliminaries with a time of 7.43 seconds.

Sophomore Andrae' Green (Washington, D.C.) was 29th in the 400-meter dash (54.41) just in front of sophomore Gabe Cadete (Nashua, N.H.) in 33rd (59.02).

GU's 4x400 meter relay team of Douglas, Cadete, Vazquez and Green placed 10th with a time of 3:44.39.

First-year runners Hawkins Morgan (Whitesboro, Texas) and Awais Mughal (Islamabad, Pakistan) finished 21st (6:00.21) and 22nd (6:48.56), respectively, in the 1-mile run.

Gallaudet will next participate in the Frank Colden Invitational hosted by Ursinus College in Collegeville, Pa., on Saturday, Feb. 8.
