OWINGS MILLS, Md. – It has been a long time since Gallaudet University women's volleyball faced Stevenson University but even a longer time since the Bison defeated the Mustangs.
Gallaudet defeated Stevenson in four sets, 3-1, here Friday evening at the Stevenson University Quad in the Owings Mills Gymnasium. The win is the first for the Bison over the Mustangs since Sept. 29, 2009. Stevenson had won the previous nine meetings before today's GU victory. The last time the two teams met was five years ago (2019).
The Bison swept the final two sets after the two teams took one set apiece to begin the match. GU (4-1) won a close first set, 25-23, before Stevenson (3-2) bounced back with a 22-25 win. Gallaudet leaned on its service game to help it in the third and fourth sets as the visitors won, 25-14 and 25-19.
Sophomore outside hitter
Brielle Worley (Amarillo, Texas) had a career night with 24 kills on 50 swings and only four errors for a match-high .400 hitting percentage. Junior setter
Ella Gamble (Cullowhee, N.C.) passed out a match-high 48 assists and five aces. Gamble completed the double-double with 11 digs.
Junior outside hitter
Citrine Lummer (Frederick, Md.) added 15 kills and six digs while senior opposite
Cassidy Perry (Frederick, Md.) added nine kills.
The Mustangs were led by Rachel Lenz's 13 kills and Makala Thompson's 20 assists.

- Junior Gisella Visco (Riverside, Calif.) had a team-high 13 digs and four aces
- Sophomore middle hitter Jada Zarembka (Riverside, Calif.) tallied six kills
- Worley added eight digs and three aces
UP NEXT
GU will continue competing at the Stevenson University Quad tomorrow (Saturday, Sept. 7) with two matches. The Bison will face Salisbury University (3-0) at noon followed by a match against Arcadia University (3-1) at 2 p.m.
