WASHINGTON - It was a tough day for the Gallaudet University men's soccer team as the Bison lost 15-0 to Alfred State College on a hot and muggy Sunday afternoon at Hotchkiss Field on the final day of the Tristan Torbett Kick-Off Classic.
The Bison were forced to play a defensive game on their home turf. Gallaudet (0-2) recorded one shot, taken by junior Matteo Giansanti (Rome, Italy), in the 84th minute. A foul by the Pioneers allowed Giansanti to get off a shot on goal that was saved by the goalie.
Alfred State (2-0) scored seven goals in the first half and eight in the second as the Pioneers outshot the Bison, 43-1, and took 10 corner kicks. The GU defense surrendered three penalty kick opportunities that the Pioneers capitalized on.Â
Four different Pioneers scored two goals apiece; Nuri Sarbudak and substitutes Jack Emo (two assists), Matthew Zwirblis and Travis Scandalis.
GU goalie Luke McBrine (Weymouth, Mass.) recorded a career-high 11 saves in the loss.
Alfred State and Southern Virginia University finished the three-day tournament with perfect 2-0 records.
