Gallaudet defeats Penn St.-Harrisburg for the first time in the Field House

WASHINGTON – The Gallaudet University women's basketball team defeated Penn State Harrisburg, 81-76, here Wednesday evening on Padden Court in the Field House. This was their first-ever win at home against the Lions in a rivalry that dates back to 2010.

Gallaudet took an early lead in the United East conference game and was never seriously threatened, although the Lions were able to close to within five points late in the fourth quarter behind 31 points scored in the final 10 minutes of play.

The Bison (3-6, 1-1 United East) had four players in double figures. Sophomore center Cam Lexow (Abington, Pa.) had 20; senior guard Raj Guettler (Frederick, Md.) scored 12; junior Hannah Puent (Indianapolis, Ind.) contributed 11 off the bench; and senior guard Claire Ruiz-Tucker (Middletown, Md.) had 10. The team had 44 points in the paint and 20 off turnovers, with Lexow and Guettler leading with five and three steals respectively.

Jordan Carpenter led Penn St.-Harrisburg (5-2, 2-1 United East) with game-high marks of 34 points and 18 rebounds. Carpenter transferred to Harrisburg from the University of Mary Washington, where she scored over 1,000 points and was twice named an All-America Honorable Mention. Giahny Correa had 16 points, including four of her team's six 3-pointers.

Penn State-Harrisburg fans, mostly family members, came out in force. Gallaudet Athletics also welcomed a contingent of educators, nonprofit organization leaders, and government officials from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia who had been on campus earlier in the day. Their visit was sponsored by the U.S. Department of State, International Visiting Leaders Program and arranged by Meridian International.
