Gallaudet’s Joe Cherichello named ECAC Esports Valorant Player of the Month

DANBURY, CONN. - Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Esports announced its monthly player and rookie player of the month awards for November 2024 and Gallaudet University senior Joe Cherichello (Austin, Texas) was named Valorant Player of the Month.

Cherichello was the core and key player in the success of the Gallaudet Bison Valorant team. He is the team's In-Game Leader (IGL) for the only deaf and hard of hearing team in the world. Cherichello has really brought the team together this season. He has sacrificed a lot of time and has helped teammates to improve their game-playing abilities. Cherichello often sat in the middle of five computers and used American Sign Language (ASL) to make calls mid-game instead of using a headset microphone that many counterpart teams rely on. Cherichello led the Gallaudet University Valorant team to the playoffs.

"My love for the Valorant game has grown each and every day," said Cherichello. "Even though the game is extremely hard for deaf and hard of hearing individuals, because it is extensively audio based, we have been able to push the limits. We are doing things that the world thought wasn't possible."

ECAC Esports recognized 21 students from 17 different colleges and universities in 12 different games for their outstanding efforts during the month of November.
