Bison pair post double-doubles in loss to Salisbury

WASHINGTON – The Gallaudet University women's basketball team took their shot against Salisbury University here Saturday afternoon on Padden Court but lost, 65-57, in the non-conference game in the Field House.

Gallaudet (2-6) missed a lot of shots, in the paint, in a game where only a few possessions dictated the outcome. The Bison battled through the missed shots and hung around with Salisbury (4-3) for the entire game thanks to their ability to gather key rebounds on the offensive and defensive ends of the court.

Senior center Alexis Roberts (Newton, Miss.) and senior guard Raj Guettler (Frederick, Md.) finished with double-doubles. Roberts led the way with 18 points, 13 rebounds and three steals. Guettler tallied 17 points and matched Roberts with 13 boards (10 on the offensive end of the court) and made two steals.

Sophomore guard Cam Lexow (Abington, Pa.) had a solid game with eight points, seven rebounds, seven assists, three blocks and two steals.

GU led 15-13 after the first quarter as the Bison made 7 of 17 shots (41.2 percent) and only trailed by two points, 30-28, at the half.

The Sea Gulls outscored the Bison, 19-15, in the third quarter and held a slight 16-14 edge in the fourth. SU shot 51.9 percent from the field and made six 3-pointers compared to GU's 34.2 percent from the field and zero 3-pointers.

SU was led by guard Nicole Miller's 19-point game as she made four 3-pointers and Abby Plaugher came off the bench to match Miller with 19 points and two 3-pointers. Sea Gull forward Kayla Nieberlein chipped in 14 points, four rebounds and three blocks in the win.
