First-year players Jory Valencia (Riverside, Calif.) and Alex Ortman (Norway, Mich.) led the way with seven points each. Valencia added a team-high five assists, three steals to go with four rebounds and one block. Ortman provided a spark off the bench with six rebounds, as all but one came on the defensive side of the court.

GU scored the game's first basket and held a brief 4-2 lead four minutes into the non-conference game. Washington College used a mini 8-1 run before Jones scored a layup at the 12:45 mark to cut the advantage down to three, 10-7.

The Shoremen (1-2) went on an 18-0 run in a spurt of four minutes as the host led 28-7 with 8:34 left before the half.
