WASHINGTON – A pair of Gallaudet University women's volleyball seniors found themselves serving a different role for the Bison here Tuesday night on Senior Night.
Seniors
Cassidy Perry (Frederick, Md.) and
Anya Pothorski (Columbus, Ohio), two forces upfront for the Bison at the net, spent most of the game behind the service line against an overmatched University of Valley Forge squad in a United East Conference match.
Gallaudet (26-4, 9-0 United East) rolled to a straight-set sweep, 25-6, 25-5, 25-7 over the Patriots.
Perry served the Bison to 20 points in the second set as she started serving at 2-2 early on until 22-2 before the visitors earned a point to stop the run.
In the third set, Pothorski took over serving duties at 4-2 and later rotated out after GU scored 15 straight points, 19-2.
The senior duo finished the match with four aces apiece. Gallaudet (26-4, 9-0 United East) the top serving team in NCAA Division III finished the match with 13 aces. The Bison have 380 service aces in 30 matches to lead the nation.
GU has won 18 straight matches and finished the regular-season home schedule with a perfect 14-0 record on Padden Court in the Field House.
The Bison got a lot of players involved during the victory and got to rest key pieces as GU prepares for the upcoming conference tournament on the horizon (Nov. 6-16).

Jazelina Bumbala (Austin, Texas) got the start at opposite and tallied five kills and two blocks in the win. Fellow junior middle hitter
Candace Broadnex (Springfield, Va.) matched Bumbala with five kills and a match-high four blocks (two solo).

After the match, Gallaudet coach
Lynn Ray Boren signed a touching video tribute to the Bison seniors on the Jumbotron board as the team, family, friends and GU supporters looked on.
