Bison win first meeting with Highlanders, 3-0

LANGHORNE, Pa. – Gallaudet University faced Cairn University in women's volleyball for the first time in program history here Friday evening in a United East Conference match in the Mason Activity Center.

Gallaudet swept the Highlanders in straight sets 25-14, 25-18, 25-17 to remain on top of the conference standings.

The Bison (25-4, 8-0 United East) came out swinging as they tallied 17 kills on 26 swings with only one error in the first set for an impressive .615 hitting percentage. GU finished the 3-0 match with a team hitting percentage of .481.

Sophomore outside hitter Brielle Worley (Amarillo, Texas) had a match-high 18 kills while senior opposite Cassidy Perry (Frederick, Md.) and junior outside hitter Citrine Lummer (Frederick, Md.) added eight kills each. Lummer led the team with seven digs.

Junior setter Ella Gamble (Cullowhee, N.C.) tallied 42 assists, five digs three service aces and two blocks (one solo). Junior libero Nicole Hicks (Corona, Calif.) was second on the team with six digs.

GU received five kills each from middle hitters Anya Pothorski (Columbus, Ohio) and Jada Zarembka (Riverside, Calif.).

Cairn (14-5, 6-2 United East) was led by Hendryl Peabody's 11 kills and two blocks while Olivia Zepp passed out 21 assists.

GU returns to the nation's capital and will host University of Valley Forge (2-16, 0-8 United East) in the final regular-season home match on Tuesday, Oct. 29, at 7 p.m. in the Field House on Padden Court.
