Bison ace road test against Penn St. Harrisburg

MIDDLETOWN, Pa. - For the first time in over a month the Gallaudet University women's volleyball team was pushed to play five sets in a match. The Bison remain perfect in five-set matches this season as they won, 3-2, over United East Conference opponent Penn State Harrisburg here Tuesday evening. 

Gallaudet (21-4, 5-0 United East) is 3-0 this year when forced to play five sets. In today's match against the Lions the Bison were on point with their service game. GU served up eight of its 22 team aces in the fifth and final set as the Bison won 25-10, 25-13, 22-25, 24-26, 15-8.

Penn St. Harrisburg (12-6, 3-1 United East) is used to going the distance against Gallaudet as the teams have played five-set matches five times since 2017. In fact, GU is 4-0 in five-set matches against Penn St. Harrisburg since 2021 and 4-1 overall.

The Bison were led in the service game by junior setter Ella Gamble (Cullowhee, N.C.) with six aces and junior outside hitter Citrine Lummer (Frederick, Md.) and junior libero Nicole Hicks (Corona, Calif.) had five each. All six servers had at least one ace in the match.

Gamble passed out 47 assists and made 15 digs to complete the double-double. Hicks finished with a match-high 20 digs. Lummer chipped in five kills and 13 digs.

Sophomore outside hitter Brielle Worley (Amarillo, Texas) led both teams with 25 kills to go with 13 digs and four blocks (two solo). Senior opposite Cassidy Perry (Frederick, Md.) finished with 15 kills while sophomore middle hitter Jada Zarembka (Riverside, Calif.) made four blocks (one solo) up front for the buff and blue.

The Lions were led offensively by Camryn Wettstone, who finished with 12 kills in the loss.

UP NEXT
Gallaudet will host conference foe Penn College (3-17, 1-5 United East) and McDaniel College (9-5) in a tri-match during Homecoming Weekend this Saturday, Oct. 19. GU will play Penn College at 11 a.m. followed by a match between Penn College and McDaniel at 1 p.m. The tri-match concludes at 3 p.m. with Gallaudet playing McDaniel.
