Gallaudet shut out by Keystone on the road

LA PLUME, Pa. - The Gallaudet University men's soccer team could not lay claim to victory here Saturday afternoon against Keystone College in a United East Conference game on the road. The host Giants blanked the Bison, 9-0.

Gallaudet (2-10, 1-3 United East) battled hard in a defensive first half as Keystone (3-9-1, 2-2-1 United East) only scored one goal. The Giants outscored the Bison, 8-0, over the final 40 minutes of play.

Keystone pressed the Bison goal early and often as they recorded one shot, in the opening minute, and back-to-back corner kicks set-up the game's first goal. Chris Roca scored a goal off an assist from Morade Mama at the 5:11 mark.

Gallaudet's defense banded together and locked things down against Keystone. The Giants took another 13 shots in the first half and first-year goalie Luke McBrine (Weymouth, Mass.) made four of his game-high 10 saves.

GU tripled its scoring attempts in the second half but the defense gave way to the Giants' offense.

Keystone tallied three goals in a four-minute span to increase its lead to 4-0 just 10 minutes into the second half.

First-year forward Stokely Karp (Framingham, Mass.) tested Keystone goalie Landon Keller (three saves) in the 73rd and 74th minutes. Not long after, Keystone responded with three more goals in a matter of three minutes. The Giants added an eighth goal in the 82nd minute and a penalty kick goal in the 86th minute.

Gallaudet's other shot came off the foot of junior defender Troy Holcomb (Fremont, Calif.) in the 54th minute, moments before the Giants scored their fourth goal.

Keystone's Hernan Godoy finished with a game-high three goals and one assist. Two Giant players had two assists each in the win.

The Bison were outshot 33-3 and Keystone took 18 corner kicks.
