Bison begin United East Women’s Volleyball conference play

ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. – The Gallaudet University women's volleyball team traveled down to St. Mary's College of Maryland to begin United East Conference play here Tuesday night at the Michael P. O'Brien Athletics & Recreation Center Arena.

The Bison rolled to a 3-0 victory by the score of 25-14, 25-19, 25-13, before a crowd of 370 as the Seahawks celebrated their Dig Pink night.

Gallaudet (15-4, 1-0 United East) has won seven straight matches and now have seven straight-set wins this season.

The Bison started the match on fire as they posted a team hitting percentage of .364 as GU tallied 14 kills on 33 swings and only two errors. Gallaudet had 12 or more kills in every set and finished the match with 13 aces.

St. Mary's (9-8, 1-1 United East) has lost the last five meetings to the Bison since 2021.

Sophomore outside hitter Brielle Worley (Amarillo, Texas) fresh off being named the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Women's Division III National Player of the Week earlier today continued to rack up statistics. Worley, who is No. 1 in the division for kills and points, finished the match with 16 kills and 19 points.

Senior opposite Cassidy Perry (Frederick, Md.) tallied nine kills while junior setter Ella Gamble (Cullowhee, N.C.) passed out 27 assists, 12 digs and five service aces. Sophomore middle hitter Jada Zarembka (Riverside, Calif.) finished with a match-high three blocks (one solo).

The Seahawks were led by Maya Mauro's five kills while the duo of Aiayna Sievert and Arielle Lubeck recorded nine assists each.
 
UP NEXT
Gallaudet returns home to host a tri-meet this Saturday, Oct. 5, against Penn St.-Brandywine (2-11, 0-1 United East) and Trinity Washington University (1-10). The first match begins at noon in the Field House on Padden Court.
