GU and Penn St.-Abington play tight game on Wednesday night

ABINGTON, Pa. - The Gallaudet University men's basketball team came up short to Penn St.- Abington here Wednesday night at the Athletic Building. Bison fell to the Nittany Lions, 68-62, in a United East conference game. 

Gallaudet (1-14, 0-3 United East) played a fantastic second half leading 59-53 at the 4:34 mark. Penn St.- Abington (7-8, 2-2 United East) bounced back with a 15-3 run to seal the victory.

The Nittany Lions outscored the Bison by eight points in the first half, 38-30, and GU played better in the second half with 32-30, but the first half was not enough for the Bison. The game featured 11 lead changes and four ties. 

The Nittany Lions limited Gallaudet's leading scorer Blessed Mbogo (Silver Spring, Md.) to three points. The junior forward was able to grab eight rebounds and three steals in 32 minutes played.

Gallaudet had two different players in double digits led by senior guard Rory Lewis (Frederick, Md.), who made 4 of 9 shots from 3-point range and finished with 12 points. Lewis added nine rebounds and five assists. Junior center Alex Antsiferov (North Charleston, S.C.) had 12 points off the bench. Junior forward Brandon Chung (Kahului, Hawaii) added nine points and grabbed four rebounds.

The Nittany Lions had three players in double figures led by guard Alex Podolski who scored 17 points.

  • Sophomore Bruce Brewer Jr. (Santa Fe, N.M.) added five points and six assists
  • Gallaudet had 28 points from the bench
  • GU scored 26 points in the paint

UP NEXT
GU returns home and will host St.Mary's College of Maryland in a conference game (8-8, 3-0 United East) this Saturday, Jan. 13, at 1 p.m.
