WASHINGTON - The non-conference men's soccer game between Gallaudet University and Alfred State College on a stifling sunny afternoon at Hotchkiss Field was physically draining for both teams. The two teams fought through both halves here Sunday as the Pioneers came away with a 6-0 victory.
Gallaudet (0-2) was pushed to remain on defense for the bulk of the game as the deep Alfred State team rotated 25 players in-and-out to deal with the heat. The Pioneers outshot the Bison, 26-1, and held a 6-2 edge in corner kicks.Â
Alfred State (2-0) scored three goals in each half as the Pioneers offense was led by Matthew Zwirblis (two goals) and Ali Mata-Ruiz (one goal, three assists).
Junior goalie
Bode Aggas (West Henrietta, N.Y.) made seven saves in over 53 minutes in net before he was relieved by sophomoresÂ
Vershon Carter (Chicago, Ill.) andÂ
Troy Holcomb (Fremont, Calif.) who made three and one save, respectively. In fact, Aggas even made a team save in the second half when he was back on defense.Â
Pioneer goalie Bryaden Fox (one save) recorded the shutout for the visitors.
