Gallaudet finds the back of the net twice against Southern Virginia

BUENA VISTA, Va. - The Gallaudet University men's soccer team traveled down to Southern Virginia University on Wednesday afternoon for a non-conference game.

Gallaudet (0-7) found the back of the net twice but it wasn't enough against the Knights (6-2-2) as the host team won, 10-2.

The Bison fell behind 3-0 early but the buff and blue got on the scoreboard in the 22nd minute when senior defender Kyle Santello (Cooperstown, N.Y.) scored a goal off a penalty kick opportunity to cut the lead down to two.

Southern Virginia tacked on two more goals in the first half to take a 5-1 lead into intermission.

In the second half, Gallaudet received another penalty kick chance after a costly Knights foul in the goalie box. First-year midfielder Samson Abraham (Seattle, Wash.) converted on the attempt to record his second goal of the season.

From there the Knights scored five unanswered goals en route to the eight-goal win. The Knights had eight different goal scorers led by Gavin Young and Benjamin Simister, who recorded two goals each.

Sophomore Troy Holcomb (Fremont, Calif.) started in goal for the Bison and made five saves in the first half. Sophomore Vershon Carter (Chicago, Ill.) finished out the game in net and made one save over the final 45 minutes of play.
