WASHINGTON - What a weekend for the Gallaudet University women's soccer program as the Bison completed a clean sweep of their two opponents to go 2-0 for the week. The Bison defeated Penn St.-Scranton, 8-1, on a hot, humid and wet Sunday afternoon at Hotchkiss Field.
Junior
Ashley Harlicker (Shenandoah, Texas) had a career game with six goals scored and 12 points tallied. The six goals in a single-game is a new program record while Harlicker ties the single-game program mark for points.
Harlicker scored Gallaudet's first six goals with two of them being assisted. The Bison led 4-0 at the half and scored another four in the second half.
Harlicker's first goal was set up by an assist from junior
Reza Mosher (Danville, Calif.) just five minutes into the game. Mosher's shot bounced off the Penn St.-Scranton goalie and Harlicker was there to knock in the loose ball. The next two goals came on fast break opportunities in the 7th and 18th minute.
Penn St.-Scranton failed to clear the ball on a goal kick and Harlicker trapped the ball and was left 1-on-1 with goalie Corinna Matute (five saves) to score the fourth goal at the 22:24 mark.
In the second half, Harlicker didn't skip a beat with goals in the 60th and 78th minute. Junior
Danielle Fisher (Pittsburgh, Pa.) got off a shot that was blocked by a Penn St.-Scranton defender but Harlicker was there to head the ball into the goal.
The Penn St.-Scranton defense gave up an own goal as Fisher crossed the ball into the goalie box. A Nittany Lion defender tried to kick the ball to the goalie but instead it went into the goal.
The visitors got on the scoreboard in the 85th minute as Jasmine Bender scored off a free kick at the top of the Bison goalie box for the first goal of the season for Penn St.-Scranton (0-1), a USCAA program.
GU added one more goal in the 88th minute when Fisher assisted sophomore
Fernanda Forero-Tarquino (Boston, Mass.) on a slow-rolling shot that got past the goalie.
Bison goalie
Lilian Nelson (Minneapolis, Minn.) finished the game with two saves.
